My 3-year old son asked me tonight about the birds and the bees. He asked, how did I come to be?
Let's back up 10 minutes. I was talking to my son reminding him how important it is to be gentle with different types of people especially grandmas and grandpas. He of course asked why. I told him because they don't have a lot of energy to keep up with a 3-year old. I said it's kind of like our cat, he's like a grandpa because he's older - he's 15 and he likes to lay around and doesn't like to be pushed on. So I was inclined to tell him how our cat came into the picture. I told him that in 1996 his daddy adopted him and took him to the doctor to get checked out and get all his shots up to date. Then in 1999 he gave me the cat and I took care of him for 6 years before we got married. Then once we were married he became our cat together.
A few minutes go by.
He says: "How did I get here?" I asked a clarifying question, are you asking, "How did you come to be that you're here right now?" He said, "yes, how did I come to be?"
I said you came from mommy's belly. =) He was happy with the answer.
I'm not so sure he'll be happy with that answer when he asks again.
How timely that he asks this question on Valentine's Day.
