Buy This Not That Ed.1

In this series, I will provide images of foods / drinks that contain High Fructose Corn Syrup (or its many aliases) and the healthier alternatives.  In some cases, you will find that the manufacturer makes both kinds - one with HFCS and one without.  For example, Heinz has an organic line and there is no HFCS in the ketchup.

The philosophy I share with many others is this: Spend little now to save on your grocery expenses and pay more later on your health.  The choice is yours.

Note: Some of these foods are (soon to be were) found in my pantry - this shows you that I'm trekking along this journey of removing HFCS from my consumables with you.  However, over time, it is my goal that the pictures will be coming from the supermarket and not from my pantry!

  1. Scary, isn't it? Most Americans just blindly go along without reading labels. Of course I have to confess I fell into that trap as well. I personally try to avoid soy (impossible 100%) with the exception of fermented soy. I let the USDA organic label give me false security. I don't recall which organic pasta sauce it is (Ragu or Preggo), but it has soybean oil in it. Why? To make a cheaper product I suppose. Bertolli organic, however, does not. Lesson learned and I'm on my toes again.
